As the weather warms up, it feels like the optimal time to reach for an ice-cold kombucha, fresh out of the fridge. If you’re looking for a little Summer buzz, even better! San Diego-based company JuneShine offers a selection of flavors with 6 percent ABV — that’s about the same as your average beer.
Kombucha is a fermented probiotic tea, packed with acidity and fizz, and many are fans of its purported health benefits. Due to the fermentation process, the drink is usually mildly alcoholic, with no more than 0.5 percent ABV unless you’re looking for a little something extra. That’s where JuneShine comes in.
JuneShine prides itself on using jun kombucha, which is brewed with green tea and honey, as opposed to the black tea and sugar used by other brands. Kombucha enthusiasts can sip on any of three available flavors: Blood Orange Mint, Honey Ginger Lemon, and Midnight Painkiller (which includes activated charcoal, coconut, pineapple, orange, nutmeg). JuneShine’s all-organic ingredients, sugar-, and gluten-free ingredients set it apart from your typical boozy drinks, too. It sure doesn’t hurt that the drink cans are picture-perfect, either.
Sadly, you can only find JuneShine drinks in Southern California stores or at the brand’s hard kombucha bar in San Diego at the moment.
